We’re Back…. Again!

I guess there are some things in life that you can not just walk away from. For me, Meets The Weird is one of those things. Just over a year ago I sat down and decided that despite how much I enjoyed working on this site, I just didn’t have the time to keep it going. Now I am sitting here writing this and honestly I can’t really say if my life has settled down enough to give me the time I need to bring the site back, but I have decided to make the time. I have really missed running Meets The Weird and can’t wait to get back in the saddle.

Please bare with me as I dust off the site and get back up to speed. It seems like everything is working fine, but if you find any issues or have any feed back, don’t hesitate to drop me a line at john@meetstheweird.com.

First, let me say that when I brought Meets The Weird back online, I had no idea how amazing an experience it would be. This site has helped me to open my eyes to all sorts of wonderful weirdness that I otherwise may have passed right by without noticing. Unfortunately, my job and personal life have been leaving me with less and less time to devote to the site. It was a hard choice, but I have decided to bring Meets The Weird to an end. The site itself will remain online for the foreseeable future, but there will be no new posts.

I would like to thank everyone that has taken the time to read Meets The Weird. I means a lot to me that will all of the amazing content on the net that you chose to devote any of your personal time to my site. I will definitely miss getting to write for you.

Meets the Weird, now formatted to fit in your pocket

For those of you using smart phones, I made a small change to the site last night to make it easier to get your fill of Meets the Weird on the go. Now when you visit the site from your Blackberry, iPhone, or Android device (more devices can be added to that list, just shoot me an email at john@meetstheweird.com and I will try and make sure you can access the mobile site) the page should be optimally formatted for your phone’s smaller screen. The best part about all of this is that you, my valued reader, don’t have to do a single thing to get access to the mobile version of the site. Simply visit the normal URL (http://www.meetstheweird.com) and the page will be automagically reformatted to be easy to read and navigate from your phone.

In other site news, a tag cloud has been added to the navigation bar to make it easier to find the posts that interest you most.

After spending over a year and a half on an unplanned hiatus, the draw of the unknown has brought me back in search of the weird and unexplained. So, please join me as I dust off the site and work out the last few bugs as we dive headlong into the wondrous weirdness that surrounds us all. Be sure to subscribe to our RSS feed and follow us on Twitter to keep up the latest news of our journey into the unexplained in search of what ever may cross our path, be it UFOs, ghosts, undiscovered creatures, or just plain outright weirdness.

Update to our UFO Activity Monitor

Some of you may have noticed that our UFO Activity Monitor has moved from its previous home up at the top of the page to new digs in the sidebar. Along with the move, the Activity Monitor has received a minor re-tooling. We have simplified the system down to 4 levels indicated by a colored dot and a text label (as seen to the right). Instead of the previous 6 possible levels of UFO activity, we now have Low, Average, High and Contact.

Low (blue) now indicates activity at least one order of magnitude below the 10 year reporting average.

Average (green) indicates activity within +/- one order of magnitude of the statistical average.

High (orange) represents activity at least one order of magnitude above average.

Contact (red) represents the most exciting level of UFO activity. It represents public UFO sighings/landings being reported by the mass media (think UFO lands in Times Square, at the White House, etc).
