Summer Spike In UFO Sightings Reported By MUFON

According to The Mutual UFO Network, better known as MUFON, in addition to sweltering temperatures, the summer of 2011 also brought with it a rise in the number of reported UFO sightings. According to Clifford Clift, MUFON’s International Director, reported sightings were nearly double the national average this summer. In a statement to Life’s Little Mysteries Mr. Clift said, “It’s pretty exciting, when you average 500 a month [nationwide] and go to 1,013 in one month, that’s an interesting spike in sighting reports.” MUFON is reviewing the raw report data to ensure that the spike in reported data actually correlates to increased UFO activity . Currently there doesn’t seem to be a correlating spike in reports to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) Database. However, since NUFORC’s data is manually approved/released, a delay could be causing the discrepancy in the numbers of reported sightings. If MUFON’s data is indicative of a upswing in UFO activity, we should see a similar uptick in NUFORC’s numbers as well as their team processes more reports which would further help to validate the trend identified by MUFON.

Did the government recover a UFO outside of Barstow, CA?

Reports are coming in of a strange incident along a highway outside Barstow, California this weekend. According to witnesses, a strange craft that was flying very low over the highway landed or crashed Saturday (12/12/2009). Following the landing/crash police, black government vehicles and a large military transport were reported racing to the scene. Upon arriving at the scene, the police and other agencies parked their vehicles facing outward, with their headlights on, so as to obstruct any view of the scene. While a photo of the scene was apparently take, as of now it has still not been posted online. Additional reports found by Phantoms & Monsters indicate that a craft was seen by truckers in the area flying low over the highway.

Adding to the mystery are the following videos from YouTube, supposedly shot in Tracy and Ridgecrest, California this weekend. Both videos are posted to established accounts with no other UFO related videos, which leads me to believe that they are genuine footage of some sort of unknown craft.

While, I have not found any other corroboration of reports of a recovery effort along any highway near Barstow, California, the video evidence from Tracy (approx. 300 miles from Barstow) and Ridgecrest (approx. 60 miles from Barstow) of what appears to be the same object have peaked my interest in the case. I will be sure to pass along any updates if or when they come in.

Is government disclosure of extraterrestrial life imminent?

We’ve all seen the posts in forums, twitter, and on blogs proclaiming that government is about to announce the existence of extraterrestrial life. I usually glance through them, take a moment to think about how cool it would be and move on. I just have never thought that the government would ever risk the fallout from such a world changing announcement. Lately though, I have heard more and more talk about disclosure happening sooner rather than later. In fact there is talk that the government might finally be ready to tell us the truth this year and I am starting to think that it may be a strong possibility.

With the world’s economy in shambles, the economic risks involved with announcing the existence of extraterrestrial life are practically nonexistent. I personally think that the injection of alien technology into the world marketplace would help the economy more than any panic caused by the announcement could hurt it. Earth could even become a tourist destination for extraterrestrials, reinvigorating the travel and hospitality industry. Economically it makes perfect sense to open up about alien visitation.

The sudden availability of extraterrestrial technology would easily explain NASA’s decision to mothball the space shuttle program without publicly having a replacement at the ready. If the US government announces the existence of alien life either this year or the beginning of 2010, NASA would be in the perfect position to retire the space shuttle as planed and begin using and learning from alien craft while we develop our own version of the technology. Additionally, we have seen the new vehicles being developed by NASA for use on other planets, but we still haven’t been shown in near as much detail on how they plan on getting that equipment to the moon and beyond. Could this be because the real plan is to use technology supplied by our new alien allies?

Finally, and most importantly, the Obama administration is not reliant on the support of any fundamentalist religious groups that might try the use their influence to prevent any scientific advancements that would threaten their world view (as they have in the not to distant past). Unlike the Bush administration that was catapulted to power partly by the unquestioning support of the religious right, Obama rose through the support from a group that stretched across socioeconomic and religious borders. This means that even if certain groups oppose the idea of extraterrestrial life, the current administration will still have the support it needs to govern effectively.

It would seem that we are facing a perfect storm that makes disclosure not only possible, but virtually necessary. An injection of alien technology and funds could have a lasting positive effect on the economy, reversing a downturn that for which no real solutions exist. NASA’s plan to end the space shuttle program before a replacement is available seems ludicrous, unless the actual plan is to use an extraterrestrially sourced replacement. The US even has an administration that could survive the fall out of turning the religious world on its head. I think we are on the cusp of a very exciting time in human history, what do you think?

Roswell’s Forgotten Witnesses

Very few events have captured the attention of the UFO community quite like the Roswell incident. In fact, it may be one of the most researched UFO cases in history. Despite this intense attention, the stories of two key witnesses to the events outside Roswell in the summer of 1947 have been largely overlooked. A recent investigation launched by UFO researcher Anthony Bragalia has focused on the US Army chaplains stationed at the Roswell Army Air Field at the time of the incident.

At the time, one of the duties held by army chaplains was that of first responder to crashes and similar accidents. They would act as an early version of a trauma councilor, helping both survivors and rescuers deal with the psychological effects of the horrors at the accident site. It is almost certain that there was a chaplain among the first soldiers at the crash site. This theory is made even more interesting by the fact that the base chaplain at Roswell Army Air Field was reassigned to a base in the South Pacific just days after the incident. After leaving the army both he and his replacement never spoke of being stationed at Roswell, though on his deathbed, the chaplain that would have responded to the crash made statements that seemed to indicate that he was witness to something not of this world.

Hiding in Plain Sight: A Theory of Extraterrestrial Observation

photo by Professor BattyThe other night I noticed a cat sitting watching me from across the street as I left a friends house. This seemingly innocuous event got me thinking. If I wanted to closely observe humanity unnoticed, but remain mobile how would I disguise my cameras/probes (or possibly myself)? The answer to that questions was staring me in the face, swishing its tail side to side. Feral cats are everywhere and almost no one notices them, making them the perfect disguise for a research probe.

First, from a physical standpoint cats are an ideal base to build an observation platform around. Their near supernatural agility means that the probe can be given the speed and maneuverability needed to evade capture without looking suspicious. A cat’s size would also allow ample room for the equipment needed on a remote probe (especially if using advanced alien technology). The probe’s power system could even be based on or supplemented by a bacteria based biologic power generation system that lets the probe “feed” on pet food left out for outdoor animals. In addition cats are omnipresent and largely look the same regardless of where in the world you go, meaning one probe could be used virtually anywhere on Earth without drawing any attention to itself.

Which leads me to what is largely the most important reason why cats would make the perfect camouflage for a a probe. Feral cat’s are (unfortunately) largely ignored by the population at large. Just try to think of the last time you looked at a stray cat with anything more than a passing glance. This apathetic acceptance of the feral cat population means an alien probe could move unnoticed through humanity, quietly observing us from incredibly close range. By being disguised as a cat, the probe could even travel well beyond the outer perimeter of even the most vigilantly guarded facility. Animal lovers on the facilities staff may even make the cat-probe an unofficial mascot, feeding and providing shelter for it. Unknowingly giving the remote observer unprecedented access with out raising a single red flag.

While this is all theory and conjecture with no evidence to prove the existence of extraterrestrial cat-probes, it does seem logical that a visitor with the technology to travel vast distances though space and a desire to remain undetected would make use of camouflaged remote probes to study our planet. Although in a much more primitive manor, it is what we do when we want to find game trails or check that the babysitter is taking good care of our children. Just as the hunter would select a game camera that would blend into the woods or a concerned parent would pick a hidden camera that looked at home in their child’s room, an extraterrestrial observer would use a probe that blends in nearly every inhabited area of the planet. Agile, omnipresent and virtually invisible, the a stray cat fits this bill perfectly. I know the next time I see a stray, I will wonder if I am being watched by a simple Earth cat or something a little more out of this world.

The recent UFO sighting down in Texas and its accompanying media circus prompted Green Daily to look at the UFO phenomena from a perspective that I had never even considered, its impact on the environment. While the article has a slightly condescending tone in regards to people that are open minded enough to believe that we are not alone in the universe, it does raise a good point. If our visitors have the technology to travel across the cosmos, go largely undetected as they fly around the planet, do they have a means of powering their lives without destroying the environment? Do they have the technology to help us fix the environmental disasters we have already completed?

While there is a chance that our cosmic neighbors have screwed up their environment just as badly as we have our own (or worse), there is just as much chance that they have learned to coexist with the natural world and can share with us technologies that will let us step away from dirty energy sources and teach us to live harmoniously with our planet. While I had never really thought about it before, this is just another reason I look forward to the day when the human race makes peaceful and public contact with the extraterrestrial civilizations that have been visiting our planet.
