Canadian Gov’t Silent On UFO Sighting Off Newfoundland

Residents of the rural community of Harbour Mille in Newfoundland were shocked when they saw strange objects streaking up from the ocean Monday night. Darlene Stewart spotted the mysterious object while out taking photographs of the sunset. Shaken by the sighting, she called her neighbor Emmy Pardy and her husband. All told, the trio witnessed three of the objects flying up from the sea. Pictures taken by Mrs. Stewart show a long possibly cylindrically shaped object trailed by smoke or fire (which doesn’t rule out a missile launch). The witnesses reported that the objects made no noise as the flew across the sky. The incident was investigated by the local police who “confirmed that it was something”, but refuse to elaborate further on the incident, instead referring further questions to the Department of National Defense. Officials from the DND have refused to comment on the incident leaving the quiet community wondering what it is they saw.

Are black helicopters stalking UFOs in the Pennsylvania woods?

Youtube user seeingUFOsPA has posted dozens of videos of UFOs flying over and into a stretch of woods near Latrobe, Pennsylvania. While the videos are definitely interesting, they are hardly what I would describe as a smoking gun (most are of single points of light against the night sky). In fact there are hundreds like them on Youtube. What interests me with these specific videos is the organized campaign that seeingUFOsPA claims has been trying to keep the public from seeing this footage. The videos have been targeted by several false DCMA takedown requests made by individuals claiming to be representatives of MUFON and even Bill Burns from The History Channel’s UFO Hunters. seeingUFOsPA is so certain that the videos contain footage of actual UFOs that she is offering $500 plus to cost of any FAA radar reports to anyone that can prove the craft on the video are man made. To aid anyone willing to take on the task of debunking the film, seeingUFOsPA post the approximate GPS coordinates of where the craft were sighted and that’s when this decidedly man made craft showed up:

Yes, that’s right. A armed Apache gunship was spotted flying low over the stretch of woods in question. What exactly is flying over the Pennsylvania woods that someone feels the need to hide from the public and send an attack helicopter to investigate?

Did the government recover a UFO outside of Barstow, CA?

Reports are coming in of a strange incident along a highway outside Barstow, California this weekend. According to witnesses, a strange craft that was flying very low over the highway landed or crashed Saturday (12/12/2009). Following the landing/crash police, black government vehicles and a large military transport were reported racing to the scene. Upon arriving at the scene, the police and other agencies parked their vehicles facing outward, with their headlights on, so as to obstruct any view of the scene. While a photo of the scene was apparently take, as of now it has still not been posted online. Additional reports found by Phantoms & Monsters indicate that a craft was seen by truckers in the area flying low over the highway.

Adding to the mystery are the following videos from YouTube, supposedly shot in Tracy and Ridgecrest, California this weekend. Both videos are posted to established accounts with no other UFO related videos, which leads me to believe that they are genuine footage of some sort of unknown craft.

While, I have not found any other corroboration of reports of a recovery effort along any highway near Barstow, California, the video evidence from Tracy (approx. 300 miles from Barstow) and Ridgecrest (approx. 60 miles from Barstow) of what appears to be the same object have peaked my interest in the case. I will be sure to pass along any updates if or when they come in.

Did Stephenville UFOs Violate Crawford, Texas No-Fly-Zone?

Stephenville, it seems like this incident just refuses to fade quietly into the night. While I initially thought the what flew over the small Texas town might be some sort of secret military project, now I wonder if the government has other reasons for wanting Stephenville out of the headlines. Today, Billy Booth recounts the tale of a UFO writer who found some very interesting information and after publishing it was forced to remove it by an un-named government agency saying it could cause “public fear and unrest”. What information could cause such a ruckus?

The writer in question received a tip that fighter jets that were above Stephenville the night of January 8th flew very close to the no-fly-zone that surrounds President Bush’s ranch outside Crawford, Texas. This close proximity raises the question, did someone or something violate the President’s no fly zone? Were the F-16s seen by residents around Stephenville dispatched to intercept an unknown craft? Is the ease with which the craft violated some of the most heavily guarded airspace in the country and evaded some of our country’s most advanced warplanes why the military and government are going to such great lengths to sweep this incident under the rug? Lets take a look to see if there could be some validity to this theory.

First, it is no secret that the President’s ranch can have up to a 35 mile no-fly-zone around it during a Presidential visit as shown in the image to the left taken from this FAA newsletter (PDF link) from 2003. Even when the President is not in, the ranch is surrounded by a 6 nautical mile (7 mile) no-fly-zone (identified as prohibited area p-49). According to this article, taken from the Wall Street Journal, the airspace around the Presidential ranch is actively protected by F-16 fighter jets (pictured above), the same type of jet reportedly seen over Stephenville on January 8th. Add to this that Stephenville is only 65 miles Northwest of Crawford and less than 48 miles from the outer limit of the ranch’s full no-fly-zone (a distance that an F-16 flying just under the speed of sound could cover in less than 4 minutes). It becomes a real possibility that the jets seen chasing the Stephenville UFO are the same F-16s assigned to guard Pres. Bush’s Crawford ranch.

If the F-16s over Stephenville were in fact assigned to protect the airspace over the President’s ranch, it also explains why the Air Force would have originally said that there were no F-16s or other military aircraft flying the night of January 8th. A mission to intercept an unidentified aircraft that violated the airspace over a presidential residence would almost certainly be kept quiet, especially if the intruder were never identified. I believe that the decision to release the second statement that there was a training flight in the air that night came only after the deluge of credible witnesses came forward saying they saw fighter jets chasing something over their town gave the military no choice but admit there were in fact F-16s over Stephenville (even if it would not admit the real reason why).

Unfortunately, this evidence only shows that the theory that the UFO seen over Stephenville violated the no-fly-zone surrounding President Bush’s Crawford ranch and was subsequently chased by US fighter jets is plausible. Unless, we can find a picture of the F-16s from that night with legible tail numbers, get a hold of the air traffic control tapes from the military, or one of the F-16 pilots comes forward, we will never exactly know what those fighters were doing in the skies above Stephenville.

Is The Stephenville UFO A Local?

As much as the US Military would like us to think that what the town of Stephenville saw was nothing more than a military training mission with common everyday fighter jets, there is no denying that there was something out of the ordinary in the sky that night. Today I came across an article in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune that got me thinking that whatever was over Stephenville is from a little closer to home than many people may be considering.

The article is about Stephenville resident Ricky Sorrells, who was allegedly threatened by the US Military if he didn’t stop talking about what he saw. While Sorrells’s story of government intimidation is week on verifiable details (though the thought of being harassed by the government is scary enough that I wish him the best of luck), there is one little pearl hidden in the article that is definitely worth exploring (and I think many people are overlooking). Sorrells claims to have seen the craft that flew over Stephenville on 4 different occasions and he describes the craft as being 3 to 4 football fields in length. While not incredibly descriptive in the least, it did get me thinking about a potential terrestrial source of the craft that if true would be straight out of science fiction. In the movie “Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow” (coincidentally a very good movie if you haven’t seen it), the heros land on massive aircraft that serves as an aircraft carrier/air base. I wondered, could the Air Force be developing a similar platform?

This could be an excellent explanation for what the residents of Stephenville saw. In-fact, the concept of a flying aircraft carrier is not a new idea to the US Military. In the 1930′s the US Navy commissioned Goodyear to build two 785 feet long zeppelins, the USS Macon and USS Akron, that would carry 5 single seat Sparrowhawk biplanes that it would launch and retrieve using a trapeze-like system. The program was abandoned after both airships were lost to bad weather. This would not be the first time that the US military has secretly revisited a previously abandoned project. The B-2 Spirit bomber is a direct descendant of the Northrop YB-49 flying wing which was abandoned in the 1950′s because of problems controlling the aircraft (modern computers make the B-2s flight a reality). This theory even explains the presence of the F-16s reported by witnesses (and initially denied by the military). I would imagine that a flying aircraft carrier would be escorted by quite a few fighter jets, just as a sea-going aircraft carrier is accompanied by a flotilla of support ships and fighter escort.

Unfortunately, if the US Military is re-developing flying aircraft carriers, I doubt that we will find out for sure for many years. It does seem to fit though. The government has already brought projects out of mothballs once the technology catches up to their designers vision. Military aircraft are often reported as UFOs (a 1982 incident in Dayton, Ohio a reported UFO is believed by many to actually have been the newly developed Harrier Jump Jet – a plane that moves like no plane anyone had seen before). All we know for sure, is that there was something over Stephenville and the government doesn’t want us to know about it (at least for now – I can’t wait to go to an air show that has one of these babies).
