What Will NASA Announce On Monday…. Disclosure?

March 7th, 2009 NASA launched the Kepler Space Telescope as part of a mission to detect Earth sized planets orbiting their parent stars in the “sweet spot” that allows a planet to be habitable. At 11am EST on Monday NASA will hold a Press Conference at the Ames Research Center to discuss new findings made by the Kepler Space Telescope. Nearly a year ago NASA held a similar press conference and announced the discovery of over 1,200 alien planet candidates. According to NASA officials, Monday’s conference will provide an update to statistical findings made by the Kepler mission. It will also “introduce a new confirmed planetary discovery”.

So far Kepler has discovered a confirmed 27 planets. Without detracting from the scientific importance of the Kepler discoveries, their announcement could hardly be called “disclosure”. Why then did I bandy about the D-word in the post title? The answer to that is buried in Space.com’s article announcing the conference. According to the article one of the participants in the press briefing will be Jill Tarter, director of the Center for SETI Research at the SETI Institute. From my brief research this is the first time that a representative of SETI has been included in a Kepler mission press conference (please correct me in the comments if I am wrong). To me, at least, this would seem to indicate that there may be more to the “new confirmed planetary discovery” than a simple “yup, we found another planet”.

This press conference may be the first step toward disclosing the truth about the UFO phenomenon and life outside of our planet. It is widely believed by many (myself included) that if the government were to come out and say that UFOs are real and they are not from our planet, there would be widespread panic that could have lasting negative effects on the entire planet. If instead, NASA were to announce that they have identified a planet that may contain intelligent life that is so far away travel would not be possible (as long as faster than light travel can’t happen) it would be a shock, but nothing that would have a direct impact on day-to-day Earth life and would be much easier news to hear. This would give us time to come to grips with the idea we are not alone before having to deal with more shocking truths. In the end, though, this is all just wild speculation and we will have to wait until Monday to find out what NASA has up their sleeves.

Are Amateur Rockets The Next Big Thing For Ufology?

The footage you are watching was captured during a Carmack Prize attempt by team Qu8k. (More footage is available at the end of the post.) While the simple fact that this video was recorded by amateurs who managed to send a rocket through 99% of our atmosphere to an altitude of 22 miles is absolutely amazing, what I find exhilarating is what private launches like this can mean for ufology. Presently, when it comes to searching for UFOs outside of our atmosphere, we are stuck either peering through telescopes or searching through NASA footage. While we can be in full control of our telescopes, the problem with NASA footage is that NASA decides what footage they release and it doesn’t seem that they are keen on sharing any UFO evidence with the public. This means ufologists are stuck looking for scraps missed by NASA’s censors.

However, amateur rocketry gives us another option. As you can see from these videos, private citizens are now capable of recording incredibly high quality video from space (more or less). While this launch didn’t catch anything “interesting”, we can see that if something was there the rocket’s cameras would have recorded it. Each private launch gives us a chance to collect incredible evidence that otherwise would be unavailable to UFO researchers. As the technology developes, launches like this will become a possibility for more and more people. We will no longer dependent on governments or large corporations to let us look beyond our own planet. I really think we are at the precipice of something amazing. What do you think?

Comet or UFO, What Crashed Into The Sun October 1st, 2011?

Here is an interesting clip that shows a series of images collected by NASA spacecraft studying the Sun. As you watch you will see an object streak into the Sun and moments later a coronal mass ejection (CME) erupt out the opposite side of the Sun. NASA’s official stance on the footage is that the object in question is a comet that disintegrates long before reaching the Sun’s surface and that the CME is just a coincidence. While everyone could agree that comets don’t cause coronal mass ejections, the timing and location of the CME in regard to the object’s impact seem to some to be a little more than coincidental. They believe that what is shown in these images is not a comet but a space craft of some kind either crashing or flying into our home star triggering the eruption. Is government disclosure of extraterrestrial life imminent?

We’ve all seen the posts in forums, twitter, and on blogs proclaiming that government is about to announce the existence of extraterrestrial life. I usually glance through them, take a moment to think about how cool it would be and move on. I just have never thought that the government would ever risk the fallout from such a world changing announcement. Lately though, I have heard more and more talk about disclosure happening sooner rather than later. In fact there is talk that the government might finally be ready to tell us the truth this year and I am starting to think that it may be a strong possibility.

With the world’s economy in shambles, the economic risks involved with announcing the existence of extraterrestrial life are practically nonexistent. I personally think that the injection of alien technology into the world marketplace would help the economy more than any panic caused by the announcement could hurt it. Earth could even become a tourist destination for extraterrestrials, reinvigorating the travel and hospitality industry. Economically it makes perfect sense to open up about alien visitation.

The sudden availability of extraterrestrial technology would easily explain NASA’s decision to mothball the space shuttle program without publicly having a replacement at the ready. If the US government announces the existence of alien life either this year or the beginning of 2010, NASA would be in the perfect position to retire the space shuttle as planed and begin using and learning from alien craft while we develop our own version of the technology. Additionally, we have seen the new vehicles being developed by NASA for use on other planets, but we still haven’t been shown in near as much detail on how they plan on getting that equipment to the moon and beyond. Could this be because the real plan is to use technology supplied by our new alien allies?

Finally, and most importantly, the Obama administration is not reliant on the support of any fundamentalist religious groups that might try the use their influence to prevent any scientific advancements that would threaten their world view (as they have in the not to distant past). Unlike the Bush administration that was catapulted to power partly by the unquestioning support of the religious right, Obama rose through the support from a group that stretched across socioeconomic and religious borders. This means that even if certain groups oppose the idea of extraterrestrial life, the current administration will still have the support it needs to govern effectively.

It would seem that we are facing a perfect storm that makes disclosure not only possible, but virtually necessary. An injection of alien technology and funds could have a lasting positive effect on the economy, reversing a downturn that for which no real solutions exist. NASA’s plan to end the space shuttle program before a replacement is available seems ludicrous, unless the actual plan is to use an extraterrestrially sourced replacement. The US even has an administration that could survive the fall out of turning the religious world on its head. I think we are on the cusp of a very exciting time in human history, what do you think?

Spirit Rover Stays One Step Ahead of the Reaper

Last week it looked like Spirit, one of two remote controlled NASA rovers currently exploring Mars, might not make it out of its winter hibernation. The worst part of this robotic near death experience is that it had nothing to do with technical difficulties on the aging rover. Budget cuts at NASA were to blame. Fortunately, NASA rescinded the letter it sent last week mandating budget cuts that would have abandoned Spirit and greatly reduced Opportunity’s (Spirit’s sister rover) exploration of the red planet. Both rovers have long outlasted their intended lifespan of only a few months, sending back valuable scientific data for 4 years. Gimping the rover program at this point would have been an incredibly stupid move. Especially when considering the cost of sending another rover to Mars (one of the reasons for the budget cut) when you have two healthy robots already in place whose yearly operating budget is fractional in comparison. I would hope that NASA came to this conclusion on its own, but I feel that it is more likely that outcry over the incident from the scientific community and the general public caused NASA to reconsider giving Spirit its walking papers just yet. While the loss of an incredible scientific tool is nothing to scoff about, this incident puts a light on a much larger issue: How the US government allocates it’s citizen’s tax dollars.

NASA, regardless of whether or not you think it is participating in the coverup of the existence of extraterrestrial life, is an important part of America and the World’s scientific growth. (DISCLAIMER: I have some relatives that in the past have worked either directly for NASA or one of its contractors.) NASA has made and made possible numerous discoveries that have expanded our understanding of the universe and improved life on Earth. Yet, this important agency constantly suffers budget cuts and may one day be budget cut out of existence while an endless stream of money is spent ensuring fuel costs continue to rise generating record profits for oil companies… oh, wait sorry I meant fighting the “war on terror”. In this particular instance, a program that cost roughly $20 million dollars a year to run found its head on the chopping block when the US spends an estimated $720 million dollars A DAY funding the war in Iraq. Taking a single day off from the war could fund the Mars rover project in its current state for another 36 years!!! A day and a half off is enough to develop and send another two rovers to Mars and fund them for 13 years!!! Imagine the scientific exploration and discovery that would be possible if we spent more on science and less on an un-winnable war whose only logical purpose can be ensuring unrest in the Middle East, giving the oil companies that line American politician’s pockets an excuse to jack up prices and guarantee record profits. Hopefully, before it is too late, the American people will wake up and elect representatives that are more interested in America and the World’s peaceful future than sustaining corporate dinosaurs, whose unwillingness to evolve should have ensured their extinction long ago.
